To more effectively demonstrate neighborliness to one another when needs arise, the Reservation HOA has formed the RHOA Care Corps. Jone Branum is heading up the Care Corp, which will work to alleviate temporary needs for physical, financial or emotional help for Reservation residents. The Care Corps plans to build a network, through individual blocks, to provide for Reservation residents; not as primary support but in a temporary effort to encourage and assist people in need.
"It is our hope to send cards, provide meals, do yard work and physical property projects; even possibly help in other ways as this network grows and needs arise," Branum said. "It is also our hope to involve our children and youth whenever possible, working alongside their parents and other adults, as we build teams who desire to participate in the RHOA Care Corp." Administering to needs while respecting people’s privacy will be one of the hallmarks of the effort.
Some blocks already have started local networks of people to help one another. For example, residents on Mohawk Trail created a Sunshine Committee that took up a collection to assist a family on their street that recently lost a loved one, and the RHOA Care Corps will look to develop similar networks of volunteers.
If you would like to volunteer in some capacity and/or have some suggestions to share, please send them to Jone Branum at: carecorps@reservationhoa.com.
A year ago, Richardson Police Chief Jim Spivey spoke to the Reservation Homeowners Association about the importance of neighborhood Crime Watch Patrols in keeping crime in check.
Tom Calvert was in the audience at that RHOA Annual Meeting, soaking in the message. But he did more than just listen; he stepped forward at that meeting to create the Reservation Crime Watch Patrol that keeps a watchful eye on the neighborhood.
His work organizing the CWP earned Calvert the Reservation HOA's 2010 Volunteer of The Year Award.
The Reservation CWP that has grown to 31 volunteers, who have gone through training by the Richardson Police Department. Two of those volunteers also have taken the Richardson Citizens Police Academy Training and one, Diana Stein, also entered the more-extensive Volunteer In Policing program.
According to Chief Spivey, "vigilance at this level makes it extremely difficult for criminals to exploit our community."

Each month, the Reservation Homeowners Association recognizes homes in our neighborhood that have excellent "curb appeal" based on architectural upgrades to the house and/or landscaping.

The home of Mike and Tammy Amyx at 1234 Chippewa is recognized as the February 2012 Yard of the Month.
The Amyxs provided the following: "We moved into our house in 1999. We wanted our son to stay in RISD, and, although he graduated from J.J. Pearce in 2008, we can't imagine leaving the Reservation and our home. It has been a labor of love, where every room has had some aspect of remodeling inside and outside. Our latest venture was to remove the brick off the front of our home and install rock; and, as we all know, one project tends to lead to another, so we then decided to change our pillars to a wood rustic look and add a metal roof. We have decided to make the changes to our current home instead of going somewhere and buying another home because we love the neighborhood feel of the Reservation. We love that our neighbors watch out for each other and that, when you take your dogs for a walk, you are always greeted by a neighbor with a smile or wave."
The home of Zes and Mary Scott at 1224 Mohawk Trail is recognized as the January 2012 Yard of the Month.
The Scotts provided the following: "We moved to Richardson in 1962 and into our Mohawk home in 1963. As our front yard oak trees grew, we lost sunshine to our front yard and replaced some of our original plantings and grass with ground cover and less sun-loving plants. We remodeled and upgraded the interior of the house several times. Through the years, we have watched many of the original neighbors move away and seen a resurgence of younger neighbors and the return of young children to our block, which has awakened a sleeping neighborhood. It's great to live on the Reservation and especially on Mohawk Trail. Thank you for this award."
The new "Reservation" sign toppers have been finished by the sign manufacterer and installed. The street sign neighborhood identifiers were installed in three phases, and the final installation was completed in late 2010.
